Give a Dog A Home Spay Day USA/Spay & Neuter StampsFebruary 19, 2004 9:49 p.m. Sorry for the late notice but I just heard that this coming Tuesday, February 24, is Spay Day USA. From the official FAQ: Q: What is Spay Day USA? Led by the Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF), Spay Day USA is America's premier national day of action to promote the spaying or neutering of companion animals. There are three important reasons for having a Spay Day USA event each year: You can find out more information here. If you enter your zip code in the Pets 911 box on the FAQ page, and then click the SPAY USA icon on the Pets 911 page that comes up, you will get a list of local spay and neuter resources. And, for those of you who like to write letters... The "Spay/Neuter" stamps issued by the US Postal Service last year have all been sold out. That's 250 million stamps sold! It's really rare for the USPS to reprint a commemorative stamp, but if ever there was a case for it, I think this one is it. There's an ongoing campaign to get the stamp reprinted and you can read more about it at the Doris Day Animal Foundation and at American Partnership For Pets. And, if you decide to fire off a letter to the USPS urging them to reprint the stamp but you're not sure what to say, get some ideas from a sample letter.
