Give a Dog A Home Happy Ending for Maggie the CockerSeptember 04, 2003 3:54 a.m. PETFINDER HAPPY TAIL OF THE WEEK: STORYBOOK ENDING Meet Dick and Jane. They live in Texas. Meet Spot. Spot is Dick and Jane's dog. Together, they are a happy family! But for animal lovers like Dick and Jane, the story only gets better when another canine is added to the cast. Perhaps that is why, when Jane overheard her coworkers talking about Petfinder.com, she decided to check out the searchable database of more than 125,000 homeless pets herself. She entered her search criteria, and up popped a list of pooches located in proximity to her zip code. One of the dogs posted by Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas--Houston immediately caught her attention. She was Maggie, a visually impaired seven-year-old cocker. "I showed Dick," says Jane, "and we both decided to see if we could adopt Maggie." The couple's application was approved shortly thereafter, and they brought their new dog home at the end of June. "I know it has only been a short time," admits Jane, "but Maggie has stolen our hearts. She quickly accustomed herself to the house and yard, and has claimed her sleeping spot at the foot of our bed. Spot was a little jealous for a few days, but now they are protective of one another." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That Happy Tail is from the ASPCA News Alert, a weekly e-mail newsletter from The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
