Give a Dog A Home Angel and Cookie ran up quite a tab at the vetNovember 20, 2003 2:23 a.m. Rescue organizations will charge an adoption fee but it's usually not enough to cover the expenses that are put into the dogs (and if it does cover everything and there is any money leftover, it just goes towards the next dog). And, in case you were wondering, these expenses include the fee to the "pound" to bail the dog, any necessary medical care, and a trip to the groomer. It can add up, especially when you have a dog who has kennel cough, dry eye, and hasn't had a bath or haircut in months. A local rescuer I know recently pulled two older Maltese out of Los Angeles animal control, where they had been brought in after their owner went into the hospital. The dogs' first adoption did not work out, but happily, everything is going well with their new owner now and it looks like this is where they will spend the rest of their days. Both Maltese needed a lot of dental work and racked up some hefty bills. Any and all donations would be very much appreciated and good news -- it's tax deductible now!! Go here for more information.
