Give a Dog A Home Happy Ending: Senior Shih Tzu is Back HomeOctober 02, 2003 10:29 p.m. This is a happy update on one of the dogs I wrote about the other day: This is a great story...a man was combing through Lost Dog ads in a Las Vegas newspaper when he saw one for a missing older Shih Tzu. He remembered he had seen such a dog listed on Petfinder. He called the woman who had placed the ad to let her know there was a senior Tzu at the Dewey shelter. Turns out it was her dog. What makes this story special is that the dog was not listed on the website for the Dewey Shelter. She was on a Petfinder page that is maintained by a rescue volunteer and is not officially affiliated with the shelter. When the owner had called the Dewey shelter, she was told they didn't have any Shih Tzu there (that's because the dog was down as a Lhasa). Sidebar: This is why you should always physically go to the shelter when you are searching for your missing pet. Be sure to check every single kennel and also ask to see dogs in Isolation/Quarantine or the vet's office. Mistakes are made and breeds are mixed up. I just thought of this: my dog Sophie was listed as a 3 yr old male Lhasa mix on the website for the shelter that had her. She turned out to be a 10 yr old female Cocker Spaniel mix. So thanks to the listing on Petfinder (and to the volunteer who maintains the "Friends of Dewey" site) and this nice man taking the time to call the woman who had placed the Lost Shih Tzu ad, this little senior furbaby is now safe and back home with her owner. Woo hoo!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
