PETFINDER HAPPY TAIL OF THE WEEK: GOING FOR THE GOLDEN

Four months ago, Joely the golden retriever/Lab mix was barely hanging on after having been abandoned by her owners. She was one pitiful pooch, with heartworms, intestinal parasites, and eye and ear infections, when Pound Rescue found her. While members of the Athens, OH-based group were helping Joely to recuperate, they posted her photo on Petfinder, the ASPCA's online partner and searchable database of homeless pets.

Miles away in Columbus, George and Betty Schwartz were looking for a golden retriever to be a big sister to their golden/Lab mix, Maggie. When they saw Joely's photo on Petfinder.com, they thought that this was the dog they'd been looking for.

As soon as Joely was given a green light from the veterinarian, Pound Rescue brought her to visit the Schwartz family. "She was even prettier than the picture," says George. "And Joely and Maggie got along swell. They both like to get rowdy, play tag and rumble and tumble."

The Schwartzes had to wait just a little while longer to complete the adoption process. But as soon as Joely was finished with her heartworm treatment, she was spayed and taken to her new home. "It was worth the wait to get her," George says. "She is such a sweet girl, and Betty and I get the biggest kick out of watching the dogs play together."
