Give a Dog A Home Rabbit Rescue Seeks Help in Cruelty CaseJuly 31, 2003 6:52 a.m. Also, from the 7/31/03 ASPCA newsletter, this is not a dog story but one worth passing on. Plus it's just about over but July is Adopt-a-Rescued-Rabbit-Month. RABBIT RESCUE GROUP SEEKS HELP IN CRUELTY CASE While driving on Highway One south of San Francisco two weeks ago, anonymous witnesses saw a rabbit being thrown from the window of the car in front of them. The good Samaritans brought the lop-eared bunny to a local shelter--where she survived, against the odds, to be placed in a foster home with the Richmond, CA-based House Rabbit Society (HRS). Now named Samosa, the rabbit is suffering from serious skin abrasions and severe foot injuries, the latter likely the result of being kept in a too-small cage with a wire-bottom floor. She's also nearly bald, with only patches of black fur remaining on her body. Explains HRS' Margo DeMello, "In cases of severe neglect, rabbits often pull out their own hair due to acute psychological distress." ASPCA News Alert readers, your help is requested. HRS is seeking information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever was responsible for this cruel act. If you have any information that could assist the investigation, please contact HRS at (510) 970-7575. If you would like to help offset medical costs for little Samosa and others like her, please visit WARNING: There are some graphic pictures here of the rabbit's injuries but they are father down on the page and there is ample notice before you reach them. HRS online for more information. Anyone with an e-mail address can register at the ASPCA website and subscribe to the newsletter.
